The present Church is what remains of the old convent of Gracianos, ordered to erect in 1647 by Francisco de Almeida Cabral, judge of the Palace.

The old convent was to be demolished in the late 19th century, by virtue of a decree of 21.02.1844, to give way to the current building of the Town Hall.

In the first quarter of the 20th century there was still a beautiful Renaissance portico at the church's door, which disappeared during the alignment works of Rua Marquês de Pombal (former Rua do Carvalho).

Inside, highlight to the chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows and to the main altar that presents an interesting carving painted in white.

At the top of the arch of the main chapel is the coat of arms of the founder of the former convent of the Gracians.
