It is thought that this masonry Chapel of Santa Catarina is a contemporary work of Templar preponderance in Monsaraz, perhaps from the late thirteenth or early fourteenth century.

Located outside the walls that defended the town of Monsaraz, it is considered that this Hermitage has been used as a defensive stronghold for the protection of travelers and pilgrims.

Classified as National Monument by Decree 516/71, DG 274 of November 22, 1971.
